F.R.E.E to Love

ImageI love Love. This has been the case since I was a child. Valentine’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays. As we celebrate in the midst of candy, flowers, and cupids in the name of “Love”, I had to ask myself a very serious question: “how much do I love myself?” This question is one of valued assessment. In the quest to find and embrace love from others it is vital to love yourself. The way to improve self love is to start with the source: God. He first loved us in order to reflect this characteristic in every aspect of our lives. We are created to speak the language of love, in order to understand that we must first comprehend what love is. The definition of love is found in the expression of God’s divine power in your life.

Second, know your value. You were created to accomplish something very special on this earth. Finding true purpose leads to embracing characteristics about yourself that can be used to impact the world around you. Knowing your value will determine where you place your time and energy. When you know that you are worth quality relationships whether friendship or romantic, you will spend time cultivating the positive ones and minimizing the negative ones that you encounter. You have a choice and no one can value you like you.

Third, reciprocate, the love that you have received is meant to be shared. When you are at a point of giving, simply give without fear or reservation. Even though this may be difficult, it is by far the most rewarding. On this Valentine’s Day and every day decide to love yourself and you will be free to love others as well. Until next time: Live New, Live F.R.E.E.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Hope of Recovery: R.I.P Whitney Houston

Link

As the world mourns the loss of Whitney Houston, I can not help but consider what led to her downfall and possibly her death. The years of struggle, publicly and more than we will ever know privately with drug addiction was apparent. As we celebrate her life and music, we must consider those that are in a similar situation. Those that battle with drug abuse, alcoholism, homelessness, and a host of other things that are contributing to the downfall of their lives. We have to be able to offer hope of recovery, reconciliation and liberation.

On Friday, February 10th I had an opportunity to be a part of this hope and it changed my life forever. Some of the ladies of Mary Hall Freedom House, which attended the six week F.R.E.E from Addiction seminar with me this past summer graduated from the program. To see these ladies conquer addiction, overcome bondage through the power of God and beat the odds through love was truly moving. They are examples of liberation. They are beacons of recovering hope. It is amazing to see God’s progressive work in the lives of women who were once without hope. God showed his love through their reconstruction process, which he allowed me to experience as I guided them through the pages of F.R.E.E: Finally Released to Experience Expansion. Their stories were life changing.

To witness their graduation was a sign that recovery is possible. They were so beautiful, resilient and liberated as their accomplishment were read. Their faces beamed with the glory of liberation and progress. I know they will go on to do wonderful things with their lives and make an impact that can not be erased.

F.R.E.E is a part of the recovering hope. The F.R.E.E movement is a part of the recovery of people that are fighting life’s battles and need a perspective of victory. It is not only for a certain race or creed, it speaks to all of us as we embrace the fact that God has crafted a special purpose for each and every one of us. It is possible to live F.R.E.Edom in your daily life. My hope is that you take the opportunity to see the beauty of your own experiences and take the F.R.E.Edom journey for yourself. Until next time: Live New, Live F.R.E.E.

Letters from My Heart: A Prayer of Intercession

“The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” James 5:16b NKJV

Intercession
Intercessory prayer is an act of service. Interceding for others is an act of taking personal needs and placing them on the back burner in order to effectively and fervently pray for others. Dr. Charles Stanley puts it best:
“We must recognize that our prayers are the link between another person’s need and God’s inexhaustible resources” Intercession goes beyond the realm of self to reach the heart of God on behalf of someone else.
Intercessory prayer allows us to follow the intercession pattern of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26 states, “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.” As we pray for others by interceding for them we express to God what they may not be able to express for themselves. Prayer is a privilege; however intercessory prayer is where true breakthrough takes place. Take time today to pray your friends, neighborhoods, enemies, government, the people of this nation and the people of the world. By engaging in this intercession you truly touch the heart of God.

Prayer
Lord, thank you for the opportunity to pray for my neighbors, friends, strangers, family, nation and the world. I stand in the gap on their behalf even now. I pray your mercy and kindness toward them and that they would experience growth in you.
Thank you for the desire to pray as the Holy Spirit prays, these prayers are always in line with your will.
I pray for the world in which we live that your mercy will be upon it and the glory of your presence will be seen. Thank you for loving and embracing all of us. In Jesus name-Amen.

Letters from My Heart: A Prayer of Strength

“Be strong and very courageous.” Joshua 1:7a
Strength
During the course of life we become tired, weary and worn out. Becoming weary is not just a physical expression of weakness; it applies to the spirit, mind, and soul as well. The obstacles of life that we face on a daily basis can cause fear, doubt, unbelief and a host of other things that can zap our strength. It is in these times that we find ourselves crying out for help and strength. In our weakness, we have access to a source of strength that is unwavering, consistent and always ready to give.

God’s strength is like none we have ever experienced. As we pray for strength, he graciously supplies it for us. God gives us a commandment throughout his word to be strong, courageous and to stand firm. In this command, we find the strength we need through him to do just that. God wants to strengthen your life in order for it to be a testament of his greatness. Rely on his strength today and you will experience the very best that God has in store for you.

Prayer
Lord, your name is my strong tower (Proverbs 18:10). I am in need of your strength. You promised in your word that your power is made perfect in my weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). You have given me the authority to call on your name and lean on you to strengthen me in every area of my life.

I am grateful Lord that I can rely on your strong hand to keep me in all wisdom, peace and understanding. I ask that you prepare my heart and mind to receive your strength. Thank you Lord for filling me, your vessel to be an example of your awesome power. Because of you, I am made strong. -Amen
